Out With The Old, In With The New: Things to Look Forward to This Year
We hear “new year, new me” constantly this time of year. Continuously making resolutions and empty promises come each January. While this mindset can be motivating, “new year, new me” typically doesn’t end the way we anticipate, and that’s okay! We have the whole year to change old patterns and take up new hobbies. Here’s to leaving the phrase “new year, new me” in 2022. However, some things are worth waiting for…
2023 comes fully equipped with brand-new media to look forward to, such as new music, performances, TV shows, movies, and more. You know what they say; good things come to those who wait.
Disclaimer: Some of the following will have already been released by the time you read this article ; )
Movies are an escape for friends and families everywhere, and a decent lineup is coming our way. From superheroes to life in the dream house, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17th, 2023)
For all of my Marvel nerds out there, this movie could completely change the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Quantumania is highly anticipated and has already received tons of positive remarks. In Quantumania, Scott and Hope explore the quantum realm, pushing past what they once knew to be true. Starring my husband, Paul Rudd, and Evangeline Lilly, Quantumania is a must-see.
Barbie (July 21st, 2023)
Now, I haven’t played with a Barbie doll in years, but I am truly excited about this film. My childhood consisted of countless 2000’s Barbie movies, my personal favorite being Fairytopia: Mermaidia and The Princess & The Popstar, of course. There are loads of Barbie movies out there, but there has never been a live-action film until now. Barbie finds herself figuring out the real world after being banished from Barbieland. The icons Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will portray the classic duo Barbie and Ken, making Barbie a future hit.
Wonka (December 15th, 2023)
This new addition to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory franchise follows Willy Wonka, played by my other husband, Timothée Chalamet (sorry, Paul), throughout his earliest expeditions. The last time we saw the Oompa Loompas was almost 20 years ago, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). Prior to that was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). Personally, I’m excited to see how Chalamet will take on the eccentric man that is Willy Wonka come this winter.
Outer Banks (Season three, February 23rd, 2023)
Outer Banks has become a staple in every teenage room in America. This summer-styled show is an action-packed treasure hunt full of teen romance and thrills. Season two left our favorite pogues on an island alone, with nothing but each other. The Cross of Santo Domingo is gone, and Rafe is on a rampage driven by the longing for his father’s respect. We are now left with many unanswered questions, soon to be satisfied in season three.
Ted Lasso (Season three, Spring 2023)
Ted Lasso is 100% underrated. If you’re a football (soccer) fan, a comedy fan, or a good TV fan, you must watch Ted Lasso. This show follows Ted Lasso moving to England to coach a football club. However, Ted has never coached their sport, never mind played it. It’s interesting to watch such a bubbly and positive coach tackle a game he knows nothing about. Season two ended with comradery, love trouble, sportsmanship, and even betrayal. Ted Lasso has something for everyone, and it is definitely a hidden gem to get excited for.
The music industry is on fire right now, with artists releasing future favorite songs left and right. Tours upon tours are on their way, along with new albums and re-recordings (I’m looking at you, Taylor).
The Eras Tour (Taylor Swift, March 17th)
Starting off strong with Ms. Swift, Tay Tay is going on tour with the first show on March 17th. I am beyond excited because I’m a lucky one (if you know, you know) who got tickets. The Eras Tour will be one big trip down memory lane, looking back on all of Taylor’s eras and moments in music. Taylor Swift is one of the most influential women in the industry, so this event will be a big deal. Fans from all over the world will be coming together to sing their absolute hearts out, and I will be right there with them. From her debut to Taylor’s Version, The Eras Tour will be a big one.
SOS Tour (SZA, February 21st)
SZA is taking it to the road, with 17 shows all over the country. Unfortunately, SOS isn’t coming to Florida, but honestly, I would follow SZA anywhere. The special guest, one of my all-time favorites, Omar Apollo (who was robbed of the Best New Artist award at the Grammys), will join her. I love Omar Apollo so much, and with SZA?! That will be a show to remember, no doubt. If anyone would like to graciously gift me tickets, I will love you forever.
Renaissance World Tour (Beyoncé, May 10th)
Queen B is back at it again with a brand new tour, and three shows have already sold out, despite the tour being a few months away. Her latest album Renaissance recently won a Grammy for best dance/electronic album. This award, along with three others, put Beyoncé at the top of the Grammy leaderboard. Beyoncé now has 32 Grammys, beating everyone in the competition. Renaissance will be a must-see no matter who you are, and Beyoncé is sure to put on a spectacular show.
Good things are coming with all this and more. The new year is a time for change, broken resolutions, making new dreams, and bucket list add-ons. With stress from school, work, day-to-day life, and more, finding something to look forward to can be your lifesaver. I hope you found something to count down the days for. May the new year bring you and your loved ones health, happiness, peace, and prosperity. Here’s to making 2023 the best one yet!
