It is difficult for students to excel in academics, athletics, and the arts with the level of dedication and success that Alana Smith, a senior at St. Petersburg High School, has achieved. As a standout in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, an accomplished athlete, and an award-winning artist, Alana Smith has left a significant mark on St. Petersburg High School.
Alana is not only a stellar student but also a recognized artist. She earned the “Award of Emerging Artists” and received the “Award of Merit” twice by the Florida Art Education Association. Additionally, she received the “2D-IB” award for St. Pete High and the “High Excellence Award” at a Dalí Awards showcase. Her artistic achievements extend beyond school recognition: her portfolio was a winning entry at the Florida State Fair, and she has been featured in the Exhibiting Artists at the Morean Art Center (2022) and the 2024 Emerging Artists of the 21st Century Pinellas County High School Exhibition.
In addition to her artistic talent, Alana is an exceptional athlete. She has played on the SPHS soccer team for four years and is currently the top scorer for the Florida Celtics, ranked seventh in the league. Her talent extends beyond the soccer field; she is also a dedicated SPHS varsity track team member. As a co-captain in 2024, she competed at FHSAA 1A Region 3 regionals. Throughout high school, she has competed in the 100m dash, 200m dash, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 400m dash, discus, and shot put. Some of her most impressive personal records include a 17.34-second 100m hurdles, a 27.39-second 200m, a 12.44-second 100m, and a 1:08.06 400m hurdles.
Balancing sports and artistic pursuits while excelling academically is no easy feat, yet Alana has managed to do it all. Ranked in the top ten percent of her class with a remarkable 4.5 GPA, she has proven herself to be a dedicated student. Her hard work has earned her a place at the University of Florida and prestigious scholarships, including the Tampa Museum of Art Ann Sklar Scholarship and Bright Futures.
Alana’s influence extends beyond her own accomplishments. Her teammates admire her for her athleticism, leadership, and positive attitude. Daniela Julian (JR) remarks, “she’s the fastest person I know and is a great leader and role model.” Antonio “Atlas” Atwater (FR) agrees, saying “she is respectful and caring of all her teammates and coaches.” “She’s dedicated, especially to making personal progress.” adds Patrick Chaerul (SR).
As Alana Smith prepares for the next chapter of her journey, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence at St. Petersburg High School. Whether on the field, on the track, in the classroom, or through her artwork, she has demonstrated what it means to be a well-rounded and driven individual. With her dedication and talent, there is no doubt that she will continue to achieve great things in the future.
