“To be completely honest, I’m usually a sucker for the main couple; I wanted them to end up together.”

Most of the people I’ve met my age have a hankering for sickeningly-sweet romances that will make their teeth fall out. I won’t sit here and lie, saying I don’t think anyone is romantic anymore. It’s just really disheartening that nowadays, the closest you can get to a love letter delivered by a dove is a message delivered through Snapchat (and they say love is dead!?). If you couldn’t tell by now, I’m a big dreamer, and I dream of the day someone decides to confess their undying love for me in some poetic way. To fill the gap in my life, every time I watch a movie, I try to find the most romantic quotes from it, so I thought I’d share some of my personal favorites with you.

“I am here, and I am looking at her. And she is so beautiful. I can see it” – The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

Not only did this entire movie bring me to tears, but this quote especially. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is such a heart-wrenching coming-of-age movie. Charlie, the main character, feels so deeply. Throughout the film, we are taken through the journey of his life as a freshman in high school. He falls in love with Emma Watson’s character Sam, and his love for her is so beautiful and innocent. He makes her playlists purely meant for her ears and makes her feel like she’s not alone. IT JUST MAKES ME SO EMOTIONAL.

“Look at her. I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way, what bliss” – The Addams Family (1991)

I have been watching these movies ever since I was a young girl, so one could argue I’ve always had expectations that were far too high. Gomez and Morticia have a type of love that is unbreakable; it’s bewitching. I remember staring at my screen as a young girl in complete awe. I wanted that kind of love. This quote is so romantic. Gomez would do anything for his beloved wife. Even though the family is borderline insane, there’s so much love everywhere.

“I want all of you, forever, every day.” The Notebook (2004)

Sweet and straight to the point, you’ve got me. I’ve written about this movie in one of my previous articles, but its second mention just shows how much this movie gets to me. I just think it’s such a classic romance, so innocent, so real. If we have a budding summer romance and you don’t send me letters for a year after I leave, then what are you doing? Rookie mistake. No, but seriously, I feel sick every time I watch this movie (a good kind). This movie is just a good romance. Noah x Allie, till I croak.

“In another life, I think I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you” – Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

I’m not even sure what to say about this quote. I couldn’t really focus since I was unable to hear over my hysterical sobs. Shutting myself in my room, submerged in complete darkness to watch this movie, was a terrible idea. Who let me do that?? You’d think I was some crazy lady who succumbed to her mass hysteria. The pure love that Waymond feels for Evelyn throughout the film shattered my heart into pieces in the best way possible. Even in universes where things didn’t go their way, he still found a way to love her. His devotion to her is what I daydream about on a daily basis. That unconditional love makes me so emotional; in fact, I think I need to take a cry break before I continue this article.

“I’ve loved you ever since I’ve known you” – Little Women (2019)

Oh my god. I’m not even a Timothee Chalamet girl, but this got me. This entire scene with Laurie and Jo is so gorgeous. To be completely honest, I’m usually a sucker for the main couple; I wanted them to end up together. I haven’t actually seen the end of the movie because when Jo rejected Laurie, I had to leave the room out of utter disbelief. If somebody had taken their time to cherish me since they’ve known me, I would probably poof into a pile of ash (in a good way). The monologue is so romantic; it’s a little bit like an onion (it has layers and makes me cry a river of tears). I love love.
