Red Queen Review

I found out about this book through “BookTok” and was a little nervous about reading seeing as it wasn’t super popular but I decided to give it a try and it was the best decision I ever made. If you’re looking for a book with rebellion, betrayal, secrets, and my favorite, a strong female main character, then this is the book for you.

Mare Barrow lives in a world divided by blood color, she is red fighting poverty, oppression, and the constant threat of conscription. While our two silver princes Cal and Maven live their lives in luxury gifted with amazing abilities that range from flames to mind control. You follow Mare as she discovers more about herself and the secrets of the world around her. She leads the beginning of a rebellion from within the world of the silvers with the help of the fearless commander Farley and the scarlet guard.

This book was full of twists and turns and plot twists that will leave you speechless. With every turn of the page, I fell deeper and deeper into the world of reds and silvers and learned the same lesson as our main character: that “anyone can betray anyone”.

“Red Queen” left me heartbroken, betrayed and so ready for the next book in the series “Glass Sword”.

Glass Sword Review

Glass Sword has so far been my favorite read of the year, while the first book in our quintet follows our main characters’ battle with the world around her, the second book in the series “Glass Sword” touches on the battle Mare Barrow is fighting from within.

As the rebellion grows Mare Barrow sets out to find others like her with the help of her red and silver crew. Her newly found silver ability has turned her into a valuable weapon and someone Maven wants desperately to control. Young Mare struggles to become the leader everyone around her expects her to be and struggles with the disappointment and anger from the ones she holds closest when lives are lost in a war she never wanted to lead. She fights the darkness that slowly creeps deeper into her heart trying not to become the monster she has sworn to defeat.

This book is full of new characters that you will fall in love with and old characters you will hate more with each new chapter. The plot twists never cease to amaze me and the ongoing fight of the scarlet guard continues in our next book “Kings Cage ”.
