On January 21st, the St. Petersburg varsity basketball team won their home non-conference game against Lakewood by a score of 72-40. Despite the great win by St. Pete, many viewers in the stand’s attention were caught by occurrences on the sideline rather than the court. Famous Rapper Rod Wave was seen cheering on his alma mater Lakewood in a closed-off area of the stands. Rod Wave is one of the most impactful singers in modern rap and R&B, with nominations in the American Music Awards, BET Hip-Hop Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and iHeart Radio. Despite Rod Wave supporting Lakewood, many St Pete High students were thrilled at the chance to see a singer that has influenced many of their lives.  Hosting such a big name in rap, an increasingly popular genre among high schoolers, was a spectacular experience for St. Pete High and its students.
