On Wednesday, November 12th, at two o’clock in the afternoon, the annual induction ceremony for the French Honor Society took place on the stage of the Little Theatre. Co-Presidents Anna Wei and Sally Rozelle leading the ceremony. During the inductions, the three inductees were sworn in after reciting the oath of French Honor Society first in English, then in French, followed by singing the French national anthem.
Junior IB Student and new inductee, Luca Baindurashvili, offers how he “really like[s] learning the French language and the different cultures that the language connects.” Baindurashvili hopes to “improve [his] speaking abilities in French and learn more about Francophone cultures.” Already having some background in the French culture and language, Luca has “studied French for three years but spoke it when [he] was younger with [his] grandma,” which is one of the main reasons as to why–when granted the choice to take French or Spanish in the IB program–he chose French.
IB Junior and current member of the society for two years now, Kimberly Bogran, says (besides wanting to major in Diplomacy in college) she “decided to take French because [she] already speaks Spanish.” She hopes to pursue a leadership position in the society, as it means a lot to her. To Kimberly, being in the society means “seeing people come together, and put in the effort to recognize, celebrate, and participate in French culture.”
According to French Honor Society Co-Presidents, Anna Wei and Sally Rozelle, French Honor Society is “a community of like-minded French Students who seek a deeper understanding of the French culture, traditions, and language.” It is agreed upon by the presidents that they are proud to be leaders and representatives of the society and “enjoy spreading a love for the French culture, and being around people who love to do the same.” In the society, a variety of different events occur: crěpe socials, teachings about Mardi Gras, Christmas in France, and other common French traditions.
With that, the French Honor Society Induction Ceremony of 2025 was concluded with snacks and beverages in the Senior courtyard. The ceremony acts as a tribute to recognize the work that French-taking students put into learning the language and culture. The overall outlook on being a part of French Honor Society is positive and optimistic, as it unifies the French students of St. Petersburg High School.
